He served ARP and PCA congregations for over a decade.

Our Theme:

We will be continuing our broader focus of Literature in the Service of Christian Wisdom through an exploration of the genre of Biography and its value for us in this pursuit.

There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy, and a tragedy.

– Mark Twain

Such is the life of enstoried and funny creatures that we are, made in God’s image and caught up in the great narrative of His redemptive history. But far from simple entertainment, examining the lives of great persons throughout history is incredibly instructive to us.

The Apostle Paul commends biography in a sense when he declares “imitate me as I imitate Christ.” Imitation is such a key aspect of discipleship, as Christ also makes clear when He says that He only does what He sees His Father doing and he calls the disciples to do likewise. Biography helps us remember and inspires change in us to imitate or avoid imitation of people. We do well to examine the lives of great persons, especially Christ followers, retrieving their stories and learning from them.

This Convivium is sure to be instructive and entertaining both at once. There will be great fellowship and excellent food – both physically and food for thought.

We look forward to you joining us, it’s something you won’t want to miss!

Attendees will begin arriving and settling in around 4:00pm on Friday, Jan. 22, at the Davenant House. At 5pm we will have fellowship over dinner and the first session will begin at 6:30pm. Breakfast will begin at 7am on Saturday morning followed by Morning Prayer together at 8am. The Keynote Speaker will begin at 8:30 and we will wrap up the last session at 3pm with time for clean-up afterward for those who are able to help. In addition to our keynote speaker, the 2020 Carolinas Regional Convivium Irenicum schedule will include the presentation of papers, Q&A and worship as well as meals on site.
